On July 30, 2020, BLCP Power Station held its 18th consecutive Tripartite Committee Meeting (a quarterly meeting). This open forum has consistently served as a platform for the community, government agencies, and entrepreneurs to exchange opinions, address community concerns, consult, and find solutions together. This year (2020), due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in response to the government's “Don't let your guard down” policy to reduce risks and travel, and to ensure the safety of participants in all aspects, the meeting format was changed to a new normal. It utilized technology to maintain connected relationships through screens, allowing participants to meet and discuss live via Zoom. Mr. Wira Mawichak, Chairman of the Tripartite Committee, along with Tripartite Committee members, government agencies, company representatives, and interested parties, attended the meeting as in previous occasions.
BLCP began organizing the Tripartite Committee Meeting in 2002 and continues to do so until the present (2020). This three-party meeting comprises company representatives, government agencies responsible for overseeing the industrial sector, communities in Map Ta Phut Municipality, and small-scale fishing groups around the power plant who are involved in or affected by the power plant's operations. The purpose is to exchange opinions and concerns through this open forum and find ways to improve the company's operations for mutual maximum benefit. In the past, approximately 3,000 people attended annually. The Tripartite Committee Meeting agenda includes updates on current situations, such as this time, an update on the COVID-19 pandemic; a summary report on BLCP Power Station's operations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities; a report on environmental quality monitoring; and a report on the inspection results of compliance with environmental impact mitigation measures for the power plant and BLCP Coal Terminal. The performance in the aforementioned areas has shown continuous progress, with the company strictly adhering to legal requirements and consistently meeting government standards. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions via Zoom, but no questions were raised, and the meeting lasted a full hour.
Mr. Wira Mawichak, Chairman of the Tripartite Committee, expressed his concern for the people of Rayong and the meeting participants, stating that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about many changes from the beginning of the year until now. This led to the cancellation of the Q1 and Q2 meetings (information was disseminated via social media). For Q3, the company organized a new normal Tripartite Committee Meeting online via Zoom for the first time. A clear new development is that all meeting attendees are becoming more familiar with various forms of social media. The COVID-19 crisis has helped us change our perspective on life, turning a crisis into an opportunity by adopting new technologies more adeptly. Regarding hygiene and health care, I believe everyone is more aware and places greater importance on hygiene and health, which is a good thing. He urged everyone to “not be complacent, don't let your guard down.”
Ms. Parichart Assawakul (Deputy Managing Director - Corporate Business Group) of BLCP Power Limited mentioned BLCP's safety performance of achieving 6.5 million working hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) as of June 30, 2020. The next goal is for all employees and contractors to collectively achieve 7 million working hours without an LTI by December 31, 2020. The company aims for all employees and contractors to work safely and return home safely every day, strictly learning how to protect themselves from COVID-19 (“Don't let your guard down”). This includes allowing employees to work from home, and for anyone returning to work or visiting the company, a Health Risk Assessment must be completed by everyone every time before entering the premises. They must pass through a screening point, have their body temperature checked, provide their history, and wear a sticker. Additionally, the company has organized safe driving campaigns for continuous physical and mental well-being, and disseminates information to raise awareness about collective environmental care.
Mr. Adisorn Wangmoon (Director of Administration and Corporate Relations) of BLCP Power Limited concluded by stating that the Tripartite Committee Meeting, which began in 2002 and is now in its 18th year, saw BLCP as one of the first companies in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate to pioneer such meetings. The meeting has been improved to be an open forum to foster greater participation with the local communities, aiming for sustainable coexistence.
